Guest Checked Out? Check for Pests Too
A hotel room ready for the next guest.
Why it matters for guest properties
Guests judge cleanliness quickly, and pests are one of the fastest ways to lose their trust. A single complaint can end up in a public review. Between stays is the best time to look, because rooms are empty and you can inspect properly.
What to check between guests
- Food left behind: in cupboards, bins, fridges, balconies and under furniture. Crumbs and sweet spills attract ants and roaches.
- Bins: empty and clean them, and check for ants and flies.
- Damp areas: bathrooms, sinks, under-sink cupboards, air-conditioning drip areas and anywhere that stays wet.
- Kitchenettes: behind and under appliances, and in cupboards and drawers.
- Droppings: in drawers, behind furniture and along walls.
- Beds: look at mattress seams and headboards for any unusual marks or live insects, and report anything suspicious.
- Entry points: gaps around doors, windows, pipes and balcony doors.
Outdoor areas count too
Terraces, pool areas and gardens can bring mosquitoes, ants and rodents close to rooms. Check for standing water, overgrown plants against walls and bins placed near doors.
Preventative beats reactive
Waiting for a guest to complain means you're already late. A scheduled preventative plan lets a technician check the property regularly, find early signs and treat before guests notice anything.
When you should call a pest control company
- You've had a pest complaint from a guest.
- You find droppings, live insects or chewed items between stays.
- You'd like a regular preventative plan for your hotel, villa or rental.
- You manage several units and want them checked consistently.
What happens at an inspection
A technician checks inside and outside the property, looks for signs of activity, works out where pests are getting in and what is attracting them, and explains what was found. You then get a clear recommendation. Protek Pest Services offers a free, no-obligation inspection across St. Kitts & Nevis.
